Plot for the show

This is the finalized plot for the show:

I think that the plot for the show looks really good and I think that it's clear to the audience. I think that this devising performance is really good.

Drama Devising Update

This post will be a recap of drama for the past couple of weeks:

We have now assigned characters to the role:

1. Freya-Sam-The rebel leader who is also Jamie who when she gets caught out, kills the rebels to keep her cover. She is in love with Spencer and Jeremy and when she has to choose who to kill and who to live with, she chooses Jeremy to live with.
2. Meg-Ruby (Sharpshooter)-The best friend of Sam. She is the one who is the best with the gun and when she finds out what Sam has done, she kills Sam and Jeremy to stop her from being killed. She also has a crush on Spencer who gets killed by Sam which is another reason why she kills Sam in the end.
3. Ashley-James (Newcomer)-He is an ex-computer worker who used to work for Jamie but comes to the base to join the rebels. All the others get suspicious that he’s Jamie as he knows a lot of information and end up killing him.
4. Dom-Tim (Technology guy)-He used to be bullied at Jamie’s headquarters and moved to the rebel group so he could be respected. This turns out to backfire as the rebels are now the ones that bully him and is always forced to do things for people
5. Carl-Craig (Ex-soldier)-An ex-soldier who is first to get suspicious of James being Jamie and doesn't trust James.
6. Toby-Jeremy-The person who falls in love with Sam and the one that Sam chooses to survive but ultimately gets killed by Ruby as Sam kills Spencer
7. Kai-Spencer- The other love interest who gets killed by Sam and the one that Ruby has a crush on. Ruby avenges his death when she kills Jeremy.

We started our opening scene with an empty stage except for Tim and Sam on stage at the computers. Then Jeremy come on and covers up the cameras using spray paint. The guard then catches him and attempts to kill him. Spencer then comes running in from the audience to try and stop the guard but then gets too violent and Craig and Ruby drag them out before they kill the guard as the rebels never kill anybody.

I think this scene could be made more entertaining. I think that the audience would be confused and wouldn't understand what is going on and needs to be introduced more to the story before we start with the action. Also, I don't think that it really looks interesting visually either.

Then the team come in one by one and Jeremy comes in injured and Freya is out the back talking to him when James walks in and the rest of the group confronts James and he is checked by Tim to find out that he is clear. Sam says that to get into the group that he has to go through a training program which is a movement piece of us trying to see if he useful for anything. I like this movement piece because it shows time passing and him failing at all the missions. I also think that it makes the audience understand that we are trying to expand our rebel group but we don't let them in without going through training. They will also visually see that he couldn't do any of the exercises that I've been he's been given. This leads to Sam telling him that he’s not getting into the group and tells him to leave. He then overhears our conversation on the way out and reveals that he knows a lot about Jamie and where the cameras are Sam then accepts him into the group whilst Sam tells us to remove us from the news and do various other tasks to make sure we still stay unknown to the outside world. Craig immediately is suspicious and talks to Sam about his worries and Sam say to keep her posted on the matter.
There are then two date scenes. One with Sam and Jeremy and one with Spencer and Sam.
We have now changed this to two different date scenes:

1. One is a date scene with Sam and Jeremy which ends up with Sam not wanting to actually go out with Jeremy because she doesn't want to reveal her identity.
2. Another is that Spencer and Ruby now confess their love to each other and end up going to bed together. This now means that Spencer doesn't ever have a crush on Sam. He now has one on Ruby instead.

I think that this makes more sense that Sam having two boyfriends because it would be hard for her to cheat when she the group is very small and intimate. It would also make more sense for Ruby to kill Sam as well.

The rebels then are back training at the base where they all have a discussion about if James is Jamie. Tim and Craig think that he is whilst Ruby doesn't which leads to her having an argument with Jeremy about it and Jeremy squaring up to Spencer. Tim gets Sam and they have an argument and she gives him a final warning as he has warned him about his violent nature before. This turns out to be the start of the downfall of the group.

Then they all go on a mission with Sam and Ruby leading. This is a movement piece where everybody apart from Tim goes out on the mission to try and get the cameras down. After choreographing the movement, we then added strobe lighting and cannon affect to make the dance more interesting.

I like this movement piece because the lighting looks really affected and I like the choreography we have put into the song. The audience will really understand that we are on a mission to take the cameras down.

This then leads to Jeremy getting angry and kills an innocent civilian. This then leads to a split screen of Jeremy and Sam arguing and a news report that gets the others frustrated as Jamie is lying about them and spreading fake rumours around. This then leads to Jeremy getting kicked out the group. Jeremy then confronts James and accuses him of being Jamie. This ends up with a fight scene between James and Jeremy. Jeremy then lies to Spencer saying that he is going to kill Ruby which gets Spencer involved in the fight. Then Craig and Tim beat him up. The scene blacks out then comes back on with James being dead. The rebels then blame each other on who killed him and agree to hide the body until Ruby walks in and see the body. Ruby agrees to hide the body from Sam but Sam then walks in and tells them to explain themselves. They say how they were suspicious and wanted to take no chances. Sam then says that they were wrong, they’re not Jamie. Tim then confronts her saying that he thinks that she is Jamie leading to her killing Tim, Craig and Spencer and keeping Jeremy alive. Meg then kills Jeremy and Sam and becomes the new leader of the world. I then decided that we could then finish with a news report of the anniversary of Ruby taking over which the group then agreed.

So far I think that the show is coming along really well but I think we should do a full run-through when we can because that will give us a better understanding on the scene transitions.

Speaking as Tim

I'm not sure if I can trust Sam any more. When I joined, she promised me that I will avenge my family but I feel like we have achieved nothing. We always seem to attack the weak areas of Jamie’s empire just to for him to be able to repair them with ease like nothings actually happened. She is always keeps to herself way too much. I don’t   actually know if she actually opens up to Ruby or if she just keeps completely to herself. Even when I asked her about her past when I first joined, she didn’t share anything with me. She said that she doesn't like to talk about it. I asked her again, she still didn’t answer me. She seems to know a lot about Jamie and what he does. Is she related to him? Are they lovers? I can’t confront her about any of this as she may kick me out. Also, last time i complained to the leader, it made things a lot worse and I can’t run away this time as there’s no place left.

Devising-Week 2

Monday

On Monday, we tried to do our opening scene but we got stuck for ideas. We tried to all different openings but we still couldn't find one that would make sense to the audience and somewhere that we could go with the script. We decided that we would message each other over Facebook to see if we could go anywhere with the scene.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, we decided to scrap this idea because we decided that it is more of an idea for a film than for theatre. I really liked this idea but as soon as we tried to do an opening scene, we struggled on what we could do. We tried coming up with a range ideas like the use of strobe lighting but nobody could come up with any appropriate dialogue leading us too having to change the idea entirely. We also decided that as this is a devising unit, it wouldn't be appropriate to do this idea as it wouldn't be original as we was practically copying the film "Would you rather?".

I really liked this idea and I wanted to carry on with it but it’s not something we should do for devising because the idea is not original. We are just copying the whole concept of the film but changing the characters and the challenges slightly.

We then brainstormed the chasing pavements idea to see what we could come up with.

Thursday

We had this idea that we would do this piece which I think could be called “Jamie’s always watching.”

The whole idea of it is that it’s like big brother with the cameras but Jamie is the leader of the UK and has put up camera’s to make sure that nobody makes any fashion statement and we all look the same. The story follows a rebel group who plans to take down the cameras and eventually overrule Jamie. The twist is that the leader of the rebels is actually Jamie and is actually spying on the rebels to see what their plan is. We don’t find this out until she kills everyone at the end.

We now have this idea that the leader would also have two boyfriends at once which would lead to her having to choose who to kill and who to tell the truth to and maybe running away with. We still haven't worked out what will exactly happen to make her kill the rebel group. Throughout the whole play we would call Jamie a "he" but it would turn out to be a girl.

I really like this idea because it's much more original than the other one we had before and I feel like the storyline would make more sense. Also, I think the audience would be able to understand this one easier as they wouldn't get confused on the situation at the beginning.

Initial thoughts on piece

I think that our idea of a stagey version of "would you rather?" is really good idea because I think that the whole audience would be easily engaged and the whole storyline would easily be easy to follow because the host would be explaining to the contestants what they have to do meaning that the audience would be able to follow what the host says so that could understand the storyline and what is going on.

Challenges

I also like the idea of the challenges because it would mean that the whole piece wouldn't just be dialogue. The challenges could be a moving piece or go into a full dance piece depending on what goes on in the challenge. This would meant that the audience wouldn't get bored. This would be quite good because we have dancers in the group who could choreograph the movement and dance piece.

Plot Twist

I think that the plot twist at the end of the play with the quiet person ending up being the smartest the person and winning the game and then when the host then goes onto kill her, she kills the host instead.

Also, the part where the winner doesn't survive but goes on one to one with the host to see who will host the best game and who will die, I think this will shock the audience and make the audience more intrigued.

Devising-Week 1

This week we have started to devise for our devising unit. We have decided to go for the idea of a game show where the contestants would sit around a table and a host would go round the table making the contestants do a variety of tasks to stay alive.The idea was that they go in there expecting a game where whoever wins will get a cash prize but it turns out that they are actually playing to survive.We got this idea from the film “Would you rather?” which is what actually happens in the film but we would change the challenges and the characters to have certain traits that would be portrayed throughout the story.

The characters are:

• The Host-the person who the players think that organised the game. At the end when we find out that he was the last person to play the game and win, he didn’t get to leave. He only gets to survive for the next game before he would then have to have a battle with the person who won the current game and whoever wins this then gets to be the host for the next game. Nobody ever gets to go back outside into the open world.

Contestants-These are the people who come here who are in desperate need of money and reveal this during the rounds before they are killed off. They start off by chasing money but end up chasing survival. The characters are (we haven’t made up names yet):

1. Dom-The scared one-this is the one who refuses to do anything and doesn't think that the host will actually kill him if he refuses to do anything. He is too scared and gets shot by the host within the first round to set an example for the rest of the contestants.
2. Ashley-The funny one who tries to make a joke about everything that is going on and ends up not taking the game seriously enough which ends up with him being too slow in one of the challenges and gets killed off in round 2.
3. Carl-The quiet one who doesn't say anything unless he has to. The round which he gets killed in (round 3) is one where he is meant to be very vocal but nobody hears him leading to him losing meaning that he gets killed.
4. Toby-The one who falls in love with one of the female contestants and gives his life for her so that she can survive for him. This leads to him getting killed in round 4.
5. Freya-She is the person who starts off really innocent and doesn't want to kill anyone at the beginning in the middle there’s a trigger that makes her want to kill everyone in the game and have no sympathy for anyone. She is full of hate and doesn't control her anger in the last round leading to her getting killed in the final round (round 6). She is the person who becomes the runner-up and is the last contestant to be killed.
6. Meg-the smart one who identifies the weaknesses of everyone and ultimately wins the game. She then goes up against the host and kills him taking his place as a new host who will host the next game.

Next week we will start to devise our first couple of scenes and try to have a bigger back story on our characters.

Double drama (28th December)

This week we added more to our story by creating a movement sequence for our first story of the brother. It starts with the first person getting a job. This then leads to him going on a dance all the way home. We have decided to make the dance comedic so that the Year 7's stay engaged and also they would find it more enjoyable. He then comes home to find out that his wife has left him causing him to go on a rampage. Then the wife's lover comes round to collect her stuff as she is too scared of him to do it himself as he gets angry easily. This causes a fight to happen between the two and a black-out happens just before the husband kills the wife's lover so that the audience don't know as they find out later that it's the reason why he's one of the three Giants. We thought it would be good to put a fight scene in as Year 7's like violence and would keep them engaged for longer.

I think that we could improve by making our story a bit more clearer so that the Year 7's. Would definitely understand what's going on.
